Bulletproof Coffee
Bulletproof coffee is the new craze of the Silicon Valley, the Wall Street and Hollywood. It is not an Italian style coffee, but it reached an enormous popularity in a very short time. Brokers, actors, power-seeking CEO’s started to use it because of it’s fat-reducing and IQ improving effects. Many consider it as a kind of legal drug.
The bulletproof coffee was invented by Dave Asprey tech guru, who was inspired by the Tibetan yak butter tea which is consumed by sherpas and monks to enhance their performance above 6000 m or just to keep their life functions while there are harsh conditions. So Dave Asprey tasted the original in Tibet, and decided to the same with coffee instead of tea, multiplying the effectiveness by following scientific methods. Allegedly, he refined the recipe for five years, while he spent 300 thousand dollars on scientific studies of brain metabolism functioning.
The exact recipe contains Asprey’s own coffee, his own MCT oil and organic bio butter made from cow’s milk (exclusively fed on grass). It may be also prepared from traditional Indian ghee butter, but any good quality coffee, unsalted butter, and coconut oil are working.
Asprey claims, that since he drinks Bulletproof coffee every morning instead of breakfast, he lost 40 kg without any diet particular training, his IQ increased by 12, 5 hours of sleeping is enough for him and all these facts are medically and scientifically provable. Naturally, these interesting facts did not remain unnoticed in our performance-oriented world.
The original recipe consisted of a double coffee from Asprey’s own coffee, 2 teaspoons of bio butter, two spoons of MCT oil (without any sugar or milk added). But what is MCT oil?
It is a special oil supplementary, generally known among sportsmen. It provides nutrients for the muscles and energy for the body, however, it does not accumulate in the body as cushions of fat. It does not pass through the liver metabolism, so the body may very quickly use it as energy helping us to achieve better performance. The MCT oil contains medium-chain triglycerides, which are much lighter and faster than the average fatty acids so it is a valuable source of energy for high-performance sport IPs athletes struggling with fat digestion problems. Its consumption is best with carbohydrates. The MCT oil is not similar to generally known healthy omega-3 fatty acid oils (flax, hemp, canola) which are also recommended, due to their health protecting effect. Ideally, in the case of athletes with low-calorie diet is used in the MCT, or if a large amount of energy to the organization.
Many people swear by it, but there are some drawbacks: because of the high calorie and fat content, you have to pay attention what else do you take during the day. For example in one dose there are 50 grams of fat, thus almost covering the 70 grams daily need of an average man.
How can you prepare your own bulletproof coffee?
Cook a cup of coffee and put 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 teaspoon coconut oil into it. This is approx. 500 calories. You may feel free to experiment.
Do not worry, despite the looks, it tastes good. In case if your stomach is sensitive, do not try it on weekdays, rather when you stay home. Some say it causes diarrhea, be careful at the beginning.
It is worth a try, however, on the one hand; be sure to properly have a breakfast, on the other hand, due to the fact that you take in quite a significant amount of fat in your body with this coffee, do not eat more fatty foods during the day.
